Hi, I’m Jess!
I work with high school students & college students in need of a positive support. Read my story below!
My Story
I have been helping people learn for over a decade! I graduated from Salve Regina University with a Bachelors in English and a Bachelors in Secondary Education in 2015. I am a high school English teacher by trade and I firmly believe my role is to help my scholars develop the skills to learn and develop systems that work best for them so they can be successful in school and in their personal lives. Believe it or not, I actually worked as a math tutor in college (yes, you read it right: an English teacher tutored math!)
Throughout my professional experience as a teacher, I have worn many different hats which helped me recognize that the biggest barrier to academic success is not the content itself—it is executive functioning skills. Over the summer of 2020, I worked remotely with learners on credit recovery on all different academic subjects and I was able to help coach them using strategies that worked for them. From then on, I became passionate about helping all learners find the right strategies for success!
My coaching style is one built around collaboration and openness. I recognize that working with a coach can be intimidating and it is hard to discuss areas where we struggle, so I take a lot of time creating a connection with my clients. As a coach, I work with my clients to identify their goals, foster their strengths, and try out new strategies. I ask a lot of questions, we laugh a lot, and we celebrate the successes. My goal is to create a space where my clients feel comfortable and feel heard.
“The biggest barrier to academic success is not the content itself—it is executive functioning skills.”
When I am not teaching or coaching, you can generally find me either outside in nature or reading a book! I love going on hikes and taking walks around the seacoast trails. I love taking care of my indoor plants and I strive to do some more gardening.
P.S. I’m also Sarah’s sister (and Georgia’s aunt!)
Parent Testimonial:
Jaime reached out to learn about coaching for her son, a junior in high school who was getting good grades, but losing track of assignments, procrastinating, feeling stressed, and declining support from his parents prior to coaching:
“We tried as parents to do the coaching, but it wasn’t working, so we reached out to learn about coaching. It was immensely helpful for my son to be accountable to someone else & have someone else help him keep track of his assignments. I noticed a shift in his attitude when mom and dad stopped being the homework police. He was happier, less defensive, and the coaching seemed to help him feel empowered to be in charge of his own school work & life.
My son used the strategies he learned with Jess even after coaching ended. Jess and Sarah are both so easy to work with - great communicators. This is what I wished I had growing up - a coach & mentor through my school years (that wasn’t my parent!). I highly recommend trying coaching for your child.”
